Loadout and TrueCoach.
TrueCoach is a well-established coaching app and one of us trained on it as a coached athlete. Loadout was built around one thing we wanted changed: the session should be data the watch, the log and the coach can all read, not a paragraph. This page sets the two side by side as fairly as we can.
The TrueCoach column describes what we saw as a user at the time of writing (October 2026). Products change; check the current version before deciding.
Writing a session
- Loadout
- Type it the way you write it. Each line is read into sets, reps, load, RPE, pace, distance and rest as you type; your words are kept and any field can be overridden.
- TrueCoach, as we used it
- The coach writes each exercise's instructions as text, and that text is what the athlete reads.
Logging
- Loadout
- One tap per set done as prescribed. Edit weight, reps and RPE for the sets that went differently.
- TrueCoach, as we used it
- In our use as athletes, results were entered as text against the exercise.
Cardio on the watch
- Loadout
- Structured workouts pushed to Garmin and intervals.icu (which forwards to Garmin, Wahoo and Zwift). The activity completes the session when it lands.
- TrueCoach, as we used it
- In our use, intervals were read from the text and entered into the watch by hand.
AI
- Loadout
- Block drafts from a brief, per-exercise progression suggestions, session readings and a morning briefing. Nothing applied or sent without you.
- TrueCoach, as we used it
- Check TrueCoach's current features; we did not see AI programme drafting when we used it.
Who needs you
- Loadout
- Roster ranked by last logged and compliance with stale and low-compliance flags; a daily briefing with draft messages.
- TrueCoach, as we used it
- A coach dashboard of client activity.
Track record
- Loadout
- New in 2026.
- TrueCoach, as we used it
- Established, with a large base of coaches who run their business on it.
Price
- Loadout
- Free for 2 active clients. 49 USD (about 39 GBP) a month including 5, then 5 USD per extra active client.
- TrueCoach, as we used it
- See TrueCoach's website for current pricing.

When TrueCoach is the better fit
If you value a long track record over new capability, if your programming is mostly written coaching notes rather than numbers, or if your athletes do not train with watches, the case for moving is weaker. Moving a roster has a cost, and a product that works for you is worth a lot.
When Loadout is
If you prescribe intervals your athletes have to copy into a watch, if you spend evenings reading logs to work out who is slipping, or if you write the same blocks again for every athlete, structure removes that work. See structured prescriptions, sessions on the watch and AI programme drafting.
Moving over
Start on the free plan with two athletes, run both tools side by side for a block, then move the rest. The step by step is in how to move a roster to new coaching software without losing history.
Questions.
Can I import my TrueCoach history into Loadout?
There is no automatic import. Keep a copy of the history you need from TrueCoach before you leave, invite your athletes to Loadout by link, and carry over the current block by pasting it into the builder, where it is structured as you paste. Athletes who connect intervals.icu, Strava or Garmin can import their activity history.
Is Loadout cheaper than TrueCoach?
We do not quote other vendors' prices; check theirs directly. Loadout is free for up to 2 active clients, then 49 USD a month including 5 and 5 USD per extra active client, with every feature included.
Is Loadout affiliated with TrueCoach?
No. TrueCoach is a trademark of its owner. Loadout is independent and this page reflects our own use of it, which may not match the current version.
